Upper Jaw Expansion Surgery Melbourne

Is commonly performed to treat a narrow upper jaw as part of an overall orthodontic treatment plan. An orthodontic expansion device is made and fitted by your orthodontist prior to surgery.

Upper Jaw Expansion Surgery

This is also referred to as a surgically assisted maxillary expansion (SAME) or surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE) procedure. It is commonly performed to treat a narrow upper jaw as part of the overall orthodontic treatment plan in patients who have stopped growing.

The orthodontic expansion device will be made and fitted by your orthodontist prior to surgery.

The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia in hospital and usually takes less than one hour to complete. Most patients stay in hospital overnight, but some patients may be discharged the same day if medically stable. This will be discussed with you during your consultation. The usual recovery from this procedure is about one week.

If you have wisdom teeth or other teeth that need to be removed as part of your orthodontic treatment, please inform your OralMax surgeon as these can be removed at the same time.
